THE CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA. BPXCTiL TO TUB " TIUBS.** WANGANUI, December 2. The New Zealand amateur championchip regatta, to be held her© on February 25th, promises to be the most j important of its kind over held in the Dominion. It is expected that NewSouth Wales and Tasmania will, be represented in the champion, fours. In addition to the crew which won at Picton and at Hobart last season, the local Union Club will be represented by another crew which is likely to give a good account of. itself. Information has been received that., the Ngaruawhia (Wiakato) crew which defeated Waiten.ata last, season will compete, also Waitara. Gisborne. Picton, Blenheim, Christchurch and Dunedin, besides one or two Wellington, crows. The other events are also likely to attract good entries, especially the sculling single and double, and the regatta therefore should bo a big success. INTER-COLLEGIATE RACE. ' Considerable interest is being taken* in the forthcoming race between crews representing the Wellington College and Wanganui Collegiate School on Monday week. The local boys are training hard for the contest and are rowing in good form. PEARCE v. WEBB. Pearce and Webb continue to put in solid work for their race on Boxing Day, and both men anticipate being at their very best on the day. Pearce is down to 12st 101 b, and looks very fit already. Jack Arnst arrived here today, and will do the rubbing, dowh for the Australian, Fogwell doing the pacing. Webb is going' along nicely, and he and his friends belove that he will be as good as ever on the day, judging from present appearances. Ho. is lOst 101 b now, and is feeling in capital -trim.* The fact that the winner is almost certain to tackle Arnst adds to the interest attaching to the match, which is likely to provide one of the finest struggles yet soon on the river.
