CURRENT PUBLICATIONS
(From Messrs Gordon and Gotch). The December number of the "London Magazine" is a thoroughly bright number full of variety and interest both to men and women. "The Last Galley" by Conan Doylo worthily opens the list of fiction, and is followed by a number of stories well up to the average magazine standard. The more solid articles include “Marconi tho 'Wireless’ Man, "IV. K. Hasolden and his work,” “German Clerks in British Offices’’—-which last gives pretty substantial food for thought. Lighter topics are pleasantly treated and well illustrated in “Fashion Freaks of Fifty Years,” “Sleeping Out of Doors in Winter,” and other sketches. Comprehensively, it is a thoroughly good number for train, steamer, or home reading. "Children’s Encyclopaedia for Novem'bor, has-lost none of the charm which has made it one of the most eagerly looked for publications of modern days. A delightful and copiously illustrated article on Venice opens the November number, and the pictures include'the famous Piazza of San Marco; tho Venetian headworkers, and the splendid bronze horses whoso history is, a romance of travel and of history . alike. “Talking to Unseen People,", embodies the wonders of the telephone, and explains the marvels of an invention winch we use every, day of . our lives, and hardly take the trouble to understand, much less explain to our children. The topics treated of present an amazing variety, ranging from the strange “Problems of Animal, and Bird Migration, to “How to Make ■ a Girls’ Shirt Blouse,” 1 from “The Playhox,” to “Tho Boy the World Wants," and “Six Methods of, Cooking Food.” The title. “Children’s ; Encyclopaedia”, is les misnomer, but an actual fact, and one garbed in most attractive vesture.,
