(By “Helen B.”) NEW PLYMOUTH, November SO. Dr. and Mrs Home have gone to Auckland, as Dr. Home's mother is seriously ill. Mrs Mcdelaud left on Monday to spend a fortnight in Wellington. ■ Mr Arnold Jones left for Wellington on Monday to meet his sister, who is coming from England on the Otway for a lengthy visit. Miss Wade, Mrs Home’s sister, is also coming out by the Otway, to spend a few months with her sister. Miss B. Bayiy has returned from her l visit to Auckland. Mrs Tvim'bell and her children have returned to Hawera. Mrs Morris Stamlish (Tarata) and her two little boys are spending a few days with relations in New Plymouth. Miss Horner, Patea, at the musical contest in Auckland, was successful in winning a prize valued at- A 5 against a number of other competitors. Miss Horner came second for the grand piano prize. Some very successful swimming races were held on Tuesday evening at the municipal baths for girls, boys and men. A largo number competed for each event, and were watched, by a large concourse of spectators. On Tuesday evening Mrs Johns gave a' pleasant musical party at her residence, Stamlish Hill. The drawing-room was gay with bowls and vases of larkspur in shades of pink, and pink ; poppies; the supper-table was also prettily arranged with vases of pink poppies and grasses. Mrs Johns wore eau-de-nil crepe-de-chino, with oriental embroidery trimmings. Mrs Gappor wore a white, silk blouse, and black silk skirt; Mrs Armitage, black silk with white scarf; Mrs Heard, white embroidered muslin; Mrs Arnold Jones, gray and black striped ninou, tunic end bodice trimmed; with steel passementerie; Mrs Chaney, white silk with lace insertions: .Mrs Tabor Pookes, black taffetas, white embroidered chiffon scarf; Miss Stanford, black silk; Miss Gapper, white orepe-de-chine with silk embroidery; Miss Warren, white embroidered muslin; Miss Thomas, pale blue voile; Miss Leatham, bine eolienne; Miss Maginnity (Nelson), cream voile with lace; Messrs Johns, Armitago, Heard, Dr. Leatham and Dr. Pookes. r During the evening . Bussell, creme costume . and dust cloak, green hat with lilac; Mrs Morris Standish (Tarata), green linen costume, large purple hat swathed with Paisley' scarf; Mrs Walter Bayiy, natural linen coat and skirt, faced with black, black, hat wreathed with .pink roses; Mrs Wheatley (Lepperton), grey and black striped voile, floral toque; Miss Wheatley, white silk, heliotrope i, hat With lilac; Miss Bead, embroidered muslin, burnt straw hat with Paislqy scarf; Miss Stevenson, green and white striped linen coat and skirt, green rose-leaf toque; Mrs Preeth, petunia linen coat and skirt, black hat; Miss Olive Mackay, heliotrope linen coat and skirt, purple hat, wreathed with flowers the same shade; Mrs Chaney, blue and white linen costume, burnt straw hat with blue bows; Mrs Mionro, green linen coat and skirt, feather hoa, green toque with roses.
