eOMEvEHBTHEK AMENDMENTS. In-committee on the Animals - Proteo■fckm: Amendment B3J, the Hon. H. F. Wig&m (Canterbury) raised a panteet against the prohibition of cylinders in duofcahootingrand asked.on what ground it was being 1 attempted. Dr Findlay said ha was assured that cylinders were unnecessary and unsportsmanlike.—The clause was passed. The Hon. J. Ametey (Canterbury) renewed his objection to the proposal to consult' acclimatisation societies in connection with the protection of harts and mowed that it bo deleted. This wua accepted by the AttomoyGenorah and after soma discussion carried. The protection of hares, weasels, and stoats was made subject to the recommendation of the Minister of Agriculture. On the motiomof the Attorney-General a now clause was added creating a general prohibition against the killing or taking of native birds and leaving it to the GovornOT-in- Car. n nil to make such exceptions as may be deemed neewaay. He explained that this was really a reversal of the present order and would bo fonnd to work much more satisfactorily. The Bill was reported with amendments and the Council rose at 4.35 p.m.
