MANWATU HUNT CLUB'S STEEPLECHASE MEETING

SPECIAL TO THE " TIMES." PALMERSTON, August 17i Fine weather favoured the Manawatu Hunt Club for their steeplechase meeting, which took place on the Awapuni racecourse this afternoon. There was a very representative crowd of sporting enthusiasts present, and the districts in tlie vicinity of Palmerston and as far south as Wellington were well represented. Large fields contested the several events, and the racing was full of interest, ihe finishes in several of the events providing plenty of excitement. A large number of bookmakers were present, and they appeared to be doing a good business. Mr G. F. D. Watson had all the details well arranged, and owing to his untiring efforts the gathering can bo written down as one of the most successful reunions j*et held by this progressive club. Mr Angus Keith was singularly successful at the barrier, his starts being very even. Dr O'Brien made an efficient judge, his decisions being given with promptitude.
