The Horowhenua Hack Racing Club follows with tho annual race meeting at Levin on September 2nd and 3rd. Nest comes the Marton Jockey Club's hack meeting on the Marton course on September 7th and Bth. This will bo followed by the Rangitikei Racing Club's spring meeting at Dulls on September 14th and loth, Prom that on racing will be in full swing-an different parts of the Dominion, and there will be onco more plenty to engage ae attention of sportsmen. Owners and trainers should not overlook the fact that nominations for all events to be run at the Rangitikei Racing Club's spring meeting must reach Mr H. The brown filly by Wairiki from Leo Delaval has been named Tipua. Some years ago Leo Delaval paid the remarkiblo dividend of .£322 4s in a race at Takapuna.

A good word is .said for Masterpiece, the two-year-old bay son of Clanranald and the Trenton mare Madowla. He is described as a very handsome youngster, quite sixteen hands in height, and with a good clean set of legs. Masterpiece is a full brother to Glenowlet, Kirriemuir, Glenculioch, arid Madam Madcap, so that it will be quite fitting that he should know how to gallop when the time comes for him to do so.

Rose Noble (Medallion—Miss Kilmany) was sold on Monday to Mr J. B. Bourko for 160 guineas. At tb© same sale the Chestnut horse Red Rain, (Clanranald— Catharine Wheel) went to the Messrs Rower lor 110 guineas, and the chestnut mare Zeonlicu (Stepniak—Miss Niente) was bought by Mr C. W. Reid for 100 guineas.

The three-year-old gelding Beau Brocade, by Martian—Cuiralba, who was owned by Mr J. F. Buchanan, broke his neck a few days ago. He got a leg entangled in his cover-strap and fell heavily. His dam Cuiralba is a near relation of Booby, the dam of Paisano. At the Magistrate’s Court in Christchurch on Monday, Robert Parks, described as an unlicensed bookmaker, was fined forty shillings and costs for striking F. Connell, au official of the C.J.C., at the Riccarton racecourse. It was a case arising out of the differences between bookmakers and racecourse detectives.

Acceptances for the Horowhenua Hack Racing Club’s meeting, to be held on the Levin racecourse on September 2nd and 3rd, will close on August 26thThe four-year-old bay mare Ristori, by Royal Artillery—Helen Faucit, for whom Messrs W. G. and G. L. Stead gave 450 guineas at the Stead dispersal sale, was put up to auction on Monday and realised 25 guineas. In some comments on turf nomenclature, an English paper says the worst offender in former years was Lord Bentinck, whose choice of names for some of his horses was hardly what

might have been expected from on owner of his rank and position. “The Devil to Pay." “There He Goes With His Eyo Out," “Wait a While Said Greedy Guts"" being specimens which must have grated somewhat harshly on fastidious ears. Mr Toxward, owner of Lady Lucy, tells mo that Equitas, Milan, and Lady Lucy will leave Wellington on Friday for "Sydney. The team goes in charge of F. Tilley, with A. Olliver as first horseman. The trio are very well.''and arc expected to show to advantage in their Australian engagements. It had been intended to ship tho three-ydar-old colt, by Sir Laddo from Lake Placid, to Sydney with Alila.ii and company on Friday, but Mr F. Preston informs me that this promising youngster will represent him in the next New Zealand Cup, to be run at Rdcca.rton in November, and ho will therefore remain at Fordcll for the present.
