BUTCHERS' DISPUTE
TBESS ASSOCIATION. OHKISTCHTJRCH, May 30. A sitting of tho Conciliation Council was held this morning to hear a dispute between the Christchuvch Operative Butchers' Union and the Canterbury master butchers. Mr J. E. Triggs, Conciliation Commissioner, presided. The union demanded an increase in wages and a reduction in hours, as well as an apprentice clause. As soon as the proceedings commenced it was stated that the employers would not agre3 to any alteration to the old award. The union's representatives also refused to countenance any suggestion in the way of modifying the demands. In. view of tho deadlock thus created the whole dispute was referred to the Arbitration Court.
