The State schools in this district have broken up for the usual winter term holidays. The Vv'airarapa Rugby Union has received a donation of JC3 3s from Hr W. C. Buchanan, -VL.i’. Friday next, Juno 3rd, is to bo observed as a public holiday as usual by the Carterton Tradesmen’s Association. The many friends of Mr It. Tocker, of Featherston, will be pleased to hear that ho has recovered from his recent illness. The card tournament played between the Druids’ Lodges of Mastertou and Carterton ended in favour of the latter, the scoring being 33 to 31. Mr W. M. Halley’s chestnut gelding Uiiarian lias returned from his trainer in Featherston to his local stables. lie will bo spelled a while before racing again. Master F. Dudson, a son of Mr J .A. Dudson, of Carterton, leaves for Gisborne on Tuesday next, where he has received an uppouiuiieut as cadet in the Native Lands UUicc. The general committee of the iV'airarapa East Coast F. and A. Society has uocided to hold a stud and fat stock lair at show time, and a comuucieo has been set up to carry out tUo nccesoary details. There was a large attendance of members on the local bowling green, wnen the season was lormaliy ciosed. A game between teams representing the president and vice-president was won by tire latter.
