THEFT OF A BICYCLE
YOUNG MAN IN TROUBLE.
Porcival McKernan Braithwaita, who had been found guilty on the previous day of the theft of a bicycle, had nothing to say when brought up for sentence at the Supreme Court on Saturday. His Honor the Chief Justice said the prisoner was a very young man, but he had commenced life badly. This was not the 1 first occasion on which he had been guilty of an offence, but he had previous convictions. In the present case he had stolen from a fellow-boarder, and a man who could ill-afford to lose X~2 10s. i The prisoner: Your Honor, I fully intended after this case to His Honor: Oh, yes! I have never known a case of fraud dr embezzlement in which the accused did not intend to do the right thing afterwards. His Honor said that as the accused was a young', man, the penalty would be only a nominal one. He would be sent to gaol for six months.
