The Shannon Rifle Club honoured on«> of its members a few nights since, by presenting the cup>formerly donated to the club by the late Mr Job Vile, to Rifleman B. F. Spencer, who was tho winner of this year's competition. This week the Shannon . Co-operative Butter Factory paid out J 51644 to sup-' pliers for tho month of March, and is; paying lid per lb for butter-fat. Tho dairy industry in. this district has grown steadily year by year. ... The re-election, without opposition, of Mr-B. R. Gardener as Mayor of Levin for another term, ehows how this gentloman's wort is appreciated. He is always alivo to the requirements of, the borough, and his re-election ia popular- with nearly every ratepayer. ■ . -

Shannon possesses good talent, and fot years past has been ablo to provide some excellent entertainments. It was quite a treat to ba at tho Musical aad Debating Society's "social" the ■ othei evening, and the programme was a first ekies one—local talent.

A oycling road race on Wednesday afternoon, thirty-two miles, Shannon tc Levin, then back through' Shannon, on to Tokomaru, and back to Shannon, waa won by George Cooper, of Ohau (Bmin). Tax time was • lhr 37}min. W. A O'Donnell (scr) was second, with fastest time, lhr 35min.
