Kempton, of "Hkn Grove," Greytown, which has boon the cause ,jof much anxiety to his peoplo of late,' continues much tlm same. Tho Methodists of Dalefield held a very enjoyable social gathering last evening, which took tho form of a welcome to the Rev. Mr Standage and family. Mrs Grant, postmiistress at Gladstone, loft for Ohristeliurch last evening, whore she will spend her annual holiday.- Mr Toms is relieving officer.
On Mond&y evening at Greytown the, Rev. H. S. Woollcombe; M.A., who is travelling the world on a mission to mon, from the CliurcJi of England Men's Society in England, will spc'ak in the Foresters' Hall.
Mrs John Murphy, am old and esteemed resident of South Featherston, passed away last evening after a brief illness. Deceased leaves a wide circle of friends, and the relatives have tha deepest sympathy in their : bereavement.
Mr Puircell Webb, organist of Knox Church, Masterton, gave a recital in St. Mark's Church, Carterton, last evening, when tliere was a good audience. Miss J. McGregor, also of Masterton, contributed solos in fine style. Recitals will probably be held monthly. ~ At the annual parishioners' meeting of •St. Andrew's -Anglican Church, Martinborough, the following officers were elected:—Vicar's warden, Mr John Martin; people's warden, Mr G.' W. Cobb; vestry, Messrs .C. W. Lee, J. W. Orbeil, J. J. Jackson, A. Bowden, G. McAllum, A. Martin, and J. Holmes. The Feattnerston- Tennis Club have decided to hold a "social" on May 12th, and Misses Tait and Viles have bo'en elected joint secretaries. Prices of adraussion have been, decided upon at 3s for gentlemen, and 2s for ladies. Misses Toogood. Ivy Tait, Benton, Viles, Philpe, Mrs Wiekeaas, and Messrs ,C. Aitcihdson, Hawke, Stephens, S. Siwers. Spiers, and Feniwick, have beeln appointed a committee. Mr W. Ross, of Featherston, diei yesterday afternoon at the age of sixty-eight. Deceased, who was ono of the Dominion's pioneers, having arrived in Otago in 1865 was a native of Ardgay, in Ross-shiro, North Britain, and soon after his arrival followed mining pursuits. Seven years ago ho settled at Wanganui, and a little over two years ago ctuno to Feathereton, where he followed farming. A widow and family of three survive him ; and have the' sympathy of all in their bereavement.
