HOSPITAL MATTERS

WELLINGTON TRUSTEES* MEETING. At the Wellington Hospital Trustees* meeting yesterday the members present were the Hon. 0. M. Luke (chairman), Messrs J. Banks, G. Nash, R. C. Kirk, J. W. MoEwan, G, London, and F, T. Moore. During the past month, according to the official returns, 90 in-patients ond 95 out-patients had been given orders for treatment, and ophthalmic patients, 73. At present, there were 212 patients in hospital, as against 255 for the corresponding period of last year. These included 155 (85 male and 70 female) in the general hospital, 20 in Victoria hospital, and 12 in the Seddon ward. The financial statement showed that the receipts for tho fortnight -ended February 7th included .£Bl from, rents, .£l2 out-patients, and .£193 in-patients, a total (including balance of .£1254- brought forward) of .£1517. The credit^ balance at the end of tho period was £730. The house committee’s report, which was adopted, included the following recommendations: —That an arrangement be made with suppliers whose tenders run out on March 31st, 1910, to supply goods for a further period; that a applications be considered for position of plumber and tinsmith: that the special committee instruct Messrs Crichton and McKay re amended plans for verandah and balcony at Victoria hospital. The chairman mentioned that in regard to the balcony at the Victoria hospital. the drawing and estimate had been furnished, and. he would he table to state something definite at next meeting. The question of making a further appointment to the ophthalmic department had been considered, but the chairman mentioned that the medical superintendent considered it unwise to do eo until the ophthalmic ward was ‘built. This would have to be borne in mind as soon as circumstances warranted the erection of the ward.
