KITCHENER AND CADETS

FOUR BIG REVIEWS. .details of the arrangements. Ift expected that Lord Kitchener mil. during his tour of the Dominion; review between 7000 and 8000 of the' j umlor school cadets. Th© most complete arrangements have been made to ©nablol ni s •*° done, and to demonstrate the ©fhciency of tho first stag© of military 1 training in New Zealand. The inspect tions will not com© at tho most oppor- , n© time for tho cadets, as tho corps lose nearly 50 per cent, of their best■tnuned boys at the end of the year, and. ther© has not been time to deal ©ffec- 1 a e iY t* lo newcomers in th© ranks, .AH the instructions stop short at a significant point. Everything has been done to ensure that hundreds of bright,’ oil-^tscirplined boys will face the great soldier at th© various review centres.! They are to be formed up in line of! quarter-column to receive Lord Kitoh- 1 ener at the saluting point, but the inJ , fit ructions jr C no further. What will 'happen next is for Lord Kitchener to order.

programme provides for inspection o± tho cadets at Dunedin on Friday. Fobruary 18th; at Christchurch on .day, February 22nd; at ■Wellington' on .Friday, February 25tb, and at Auok|land on Tuesday, March Ist. In connection witflh the Wellington inspection, puttying units will assemble on tire previous Wednesday, and city and suburban units on Thursday, when combined instruction is to be given. Tile Wellington renew centre is at Hutt Park, a very convenient point for mobilisation -previously used by tho cadets, Tire grandstands will be available lor the'public, anct there is plenty of room for skirmishing, physical drill, ©cent work, or any other feature of cadet training of which a demonstration is) desired.

Tho cadets to bo mobilised consist onlyi of units that can be transported by tbel railways, and not to any unit that would require water or other transport at tbel public expense except on harbour ferry l steamers. Free railway passes are to be issued to all units travelling on the railways. Camps or quarters will be provided for th© cadets from the outlying districts of each centre. Free rations will also bo provided for such cadets during the period they are in camp oc quarters. On the day of, and the day .prior to, tho inspection, lunch will be provided at the camp or quarters fort the city and suburban cadets. It is pointed qnt in the Cadet Orders) that Section 37 of tho Defence Act pro-’ vides that ail boys over twelve years of age shall continue ns cadets, even 'if they, leave school, until they attain the ago of fourteen years, and officers commanding units are urged to endeavour to got ‘as many cadets who have ceased to attend school as possible to turn out .on this rare occasion.
