ROBBED AND MURDERED

A sensational affair is now engaging attention .at Lille, an important city which is the capital of tho department of Nord (French Flanders) and about 155 miles distant from Paris.
Yesterday M. Thain, the cashier of the Lille branch of the Bank of France, called at a fashionable private house in the city in order to receive tho sum of 4000 francs.
There ho was robbed and murdered, his dead body being discovered in a garret of the house. Antoine Favier, the owner of the house, it has now been discovered, has absconded, and is said to have 6000 francs with him. An excited crowd of Lille townsfolk gathered round the house immediately after the discoveries, and tried vainly to lynch Madam© Favier. She was rescued by a body of mounted police, and placed under arrest.’
