ilrs ELaJcs is staying at tho Hntt. Mrs Fowlds returns this morning. Mrs E. J. Seddon returned yesterday afternoon. Mrs Cyril Ward did not go South last night as arranged, Mrs and Miss Reed, of Wanganui, are staying at tho Windsor, Miss Waddell-Searohfield, of Auckland, is staying at tho Windsor. Mins Toihurst gave an enjoyable tennis party for Miss Pulton yesterday. Miss Sowerby, of Eangittkei, is on a visit to Mrs Preshaw, of Brackenfield, Bast Coast. Mrs Ernest Queree, who has resumed teaching, has removed to her new studio in Buloott Chambers. Mrs 0. B. Russell returned from Day’s Bay House yesterday. Miss Kent, of Gisborne, is at present the guest of the Mieses Kummor, of Kummerstein, Wairarapa. Miss Card, of Featlierston, is in town. Mra Card and her two daughters leave April for a visit to the Old Country. Miss Holmwood and Mrs Stewart, of Masterton, who have been on a holiday visit to Mrs Preshaw, of Brackenfield, Bast Coast, have returned home. . Mrs Fitbhett has left for Carterton to attend the wedding of Miss Welters to Mr Trapp, whioh takes place there this afternoon at 2.30. A number of guests are going from town. Miss Baldwin Warn and Miss Durrant have issued invitations for a private view of portraits to be held on the 10th, 11th, and 12th, at the residence of Dr and Mrs Crosby, Mount View, near tho new rioe-regal residence. Miss S. Dimant has resigned her position as hon. general secretary of the Girls’ Realm " Guild in New Zealand. Miss' Dimant has held this position since tho establishment of the centre, after the visit of Miss Jessie Aokermann, F.B-SiG.S., and world’s organising president of the guild, in ISOB. She asked to he relieved at the last annual meeting on account of lack of leisure to attend to tho work, but as no one came forward to take up the position she has kept on till now, hut finds it imperative to relinquish the post she has filled so satisfactorily. Guild members will regret to hear of the necessity for this decision.

Mrs B. J. Seddon has been on a visit to Manawatu. On Sunday she ran out to Bulls in a motor cor in company.with Mr J. M. Johnston, and paid a visit to the veteran politician, Mr John Stevens. It was a happy thought and a pleasant surprise. Although -his eyesight has left him, Mr Stevens retains hla keen mental . faculties, and. he kept hla visitors entertained with early day' reminiscences for. a couple.- of • hours. Mr Stevens still, keeps many iroua in the fire, and is keenly Interested in a project, well under way, tor the erection of workmen’s cottages at Bulls. 'He. has called them by quaint but appropriate Maori names. Mr Stevens is in receipt of a large income from flaxmill ventures in both islands.
