FORT NEPEAN ACCIDENT
« SUGGESTED DEFECT IN LOCK OF OLD GUN.

MELBOURNE, January 14
The gunners injured at Fort Nepean yesterday are progressing satisfactorily. The gun causing the accident was an old one, and had been in the fort for twenty years. It is suggested that tho accident was caused by the lock becoming defective through wear. A board of officers has been appointed to inquire into tho occurrence. Lord Kitchener expressed his regret at tho disaster.
