MAGISTRATE'S COURT
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 12. (Before Dr A. McArthur, S.M.) Michael Wall pleaded guilty to a charge of having stolen some clothing valued at Us 10d, the property of George Coivie. His Worship rvas informed by Statiorr-Sergeant Darby that the defendant was a. coal-trimmer on board the steamer Orari. Ho had taken a fiuanfcitv of clothing from tho cook s berth, packed the things up in a bundle, and was about to leave tho ship when ho was noti cod by the chief othcer. \\ lien the accused was arrested he was in .a fuddled condition. Sergeant Darby said he "was neither drunk nor sober. , The accus'd was fined 20s, together with Court fees and witnesses’ expenses. •• A first offender was convicted oi drunkenness and discharged. Walter Twomer pleaded guuty to a charge of having stolen a suit of clothes valued at <£s from Itaio Giovanni I-randi, It appeared that accused was travelling in a tram-oar with Fraud!, who had a parcel containing the l suit of clothes in question with him. When accused was leavin? the car he picked up Frandi’s parcel and took it away with him. Subsequently accused became frightened and he advertised the parcel in the hope of getting a reward. As it was Ids first offence he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. William Joseph Bray, a watchmaker in. Taranaki street, was remanded until the 19th instant on a charge of having stolen a gold watch valued at <£29, the property of John William Murphy, who had given it to him to repair. It appeared ,that accused had afterwards pawned tho watch.
In. the Juvenile Court four young boys were convicted of having wilfully damaged a stable at Island Bay, ! th© property of Mr George H. Baylis. They were ordered to pay *£3, the amount of the damage, and 10s witnesses’ expenses. Two other boys, who were convicted. of carrying firearms, were cautioned .and discharged.
