McGregor, a well-known settler, having his back broken by th© capsize of a-waggon loaded v/ith wood. AVITANGARE!, January 11. Joseph Jones, forty years of age, a married man, belonging to the Coromandel district, who was on a visit to Whangarei, was found.missing from his place of residence last night. . He had left a' note saying: "Very eorry; brain on fire/’ A search party found Jones this morning in a paddock near tho town with his throat cut. Th© wound is not dangerous. AUCKLAND, January XI. At an inquest to-day oh the body of Connely Maria Gugwell (not Pugwell, as earlier reported), tho jury returned a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane.
The Coroner stated, that ho had been endeavouring for some time to have carbolic acia, which deceased had used, placed'on the first schedule <of the Poisons Aot.
INVERCARGILL, January 11. •Anxiety is felt her© for the safety of Goo. T. Smythe, a local business man. who has been missing . sine© yesterday afternoon. Mr Smyth© - has been suffering from insomnia, .and got up out of bed, saying he was going down town for ten minutes. He has not since been seen.
Mr Smythe was found, to-night by a motoring party at Makorewa,, near town. He was oonsetous when discovered, but was unaware thiart a day hod paaged erince he loft home. H© he had been attacked 1 by a sudden uncanficdousneas, and hod been revived by rain Which fell this afteojioon. He is little the worse. for.' Ms night's' outing.
