NO CHANGE IN THE POSITION. Locally yesterday there was practically no change in respect to the position created by the slaughtermen's demand for increased pay. Both sides were silent as to what was likely to be the upshot of the trouble. The Council of Conciliation will meet this afternoon to consider the demands of the workers. Mr P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, is hopeful that some course will be devised whereby serious trouble will be obviated. Though the council will possibly be in a position to make its recommendations by to-monrow, they will have to be submitted to both parties before any further definite step can 'be taken. The men. it is stated, fully feel the strength of their position, and reports are current that one of the local companies would be willing to concede most of what is asked rather than have its employees strike.
