LIABILITY OF SHIPOWNERS
SPECIAL TO THB “ TIMES.** CHBISTCHXTECH. January 11. Messrs Todhuntor Bros, wrote to the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce enclosing copies of correspondence *‘n connection with the delivery of oats in London. It appeared that two firms shipped consignments of oats, one of Garton and the other of Danish, both having the same brand, and in giving delivery the shipping company delivered portion of the Danish oats instead of CGarton and disclaimed all liability. They asked that the chamber should discuss the Question with the object of haring the position between the shipper and the shipowner nut on a moro satisfactory footing. The opinion was expressed at a meeting of the Council of tho Chamber today that the point was really a legal one, but that the consignee should hold tho shipowners responsible.
