SERIOUS CHARGES
BREAKING, ENTERING. THEFT ANB ARSON. PBKBS ASSOCIATION 1 .
WAIHI, January 11. As a sequel to a fire which occurred in Waihl during tho holidays, resulting in the destruction of a boarding-house 'and furniture, George Mallmeon was charged today with breaking, entering, theft and arson, accused being a former ’hoarder.
(Mrs Poacookc, landlady, in whose naan lh« furniture was insured for ,£3OO, wan charged with arson. The evidence went to show that the two accused had been on intimate terms, and that a number of personal effects of Mrs Pcacocke were found in the possession of Jfallmson. There wag a letter! written" by Mrs Pcacocke asking Mallinson to take whatever effects ho thought would be useful for a now house out of the house. The boardinghouse ■ wag empty at the time of the fire, Mr and Mrs Pcacocke being absent with a camps ing party at the beach. Accused pleaded not guilty and were committed to the Supremo Court at Hamilton on February 28th.
