ENTHUSIASTIC WELCOME AT MELBOURNE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received January 11, 9.35 p.m.) MELBOURNE, January 11. A crowd of 15,000 persons awaited Lord Kitcheners arrival to-day at tlio Spencer street railway station, and the Field-Marshal was accorded a most enthusiastic reception. Mr 'Deakin, Prime Minister, with the Federal Ministers, and Sir George Reid, High Commissioner, welcomed Lord Kitchener on behalf of tho Commonwealth. A guard of honour escorted tlio distinguished visitor to tho Federal Government House, tho crowds lining tho route repeatedly cheering the Field-Marshal. ' AT BATHURST. j SYDNEY, January 11. At Bathurst yesterday Lord Kitchener unveiled a memorial to local soldiers who fell in the Boer war. Lord Kitchener was also to present tho Bathurst Civilians Eiiie Club with tlio “DaAly -Mail” Empire cups and other trophies.
