The Tawaha Dairy Company has received advice that the prices for cheese at Horae are ruling lower than last year, but tho company anticipate that tho good season now being experienced will more than make up in increased supply for tho lower prices. Informations have been laid by the Masterton Acclimatisation Society against various individuals for catching trout without a license and out of season, and also for taking hares' out of season. The cases will bo heard on Friday next. An information has been laid against W. Eagle, licenses of the Taueru Hotel, charging him with bringing liquor into the no-liconse district of Masterton without having proper!}' labelled it. Tho case will come _ before the Jla-gistrate’s Court on Friday next.

Bayliss. - Jlesdames Harris Blissett and Gaskin had a marvellous escape from death on Friday last __at Martinhorough. They wore driving ill a gig when the horse became restive and shying suddenly bolted down the road. The gig was capsized and the occupants thrown out with considerable Violence. Both shafts of the vehicle were broken and the horse commenced to render the body of the _ gig to -matchwood before taking it into hia head to continue his career along tho -road. Though the ladies were considerably. bruised and cut they escaped without breaking any hones and, indeed, had a miraculous escape.

Mount Holdsworbh is becoming quite «. fashionable . resort for visitors, and on Saturday. last there were no less than forty-one “tourists” climbing the mountain. One-party who successfully reached the summit came from Olaroville, and consisted of Mrs J. W. Compton, Misses Fifield (South Canterbury), L. Briar]y, A. Harvey, N. Anderson (Napier), E. Thompson (Hastings), and Messrs L. Wilton, D. Wilton, J. McPhee H. Hatch, E. Wilton, O'. Harvey and Master E. Briarly. At -the present time the flowers and mountain shrubs are all out in bloom and make a beautiful picture. In fine weather the trip is an excellent one, and visitors are being attracted from various parts of the North Island to do tho climb. MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL. The Alas tort on County Council held its monthly meeting this afternoon. Present—Councillors W. J. Welch (chairman), J. Foreman, J. Fuller, J. Morris, H. O. Toogood, J. Colquhoun, C. K ebb ell. and P. F. K-. Beetham. On behalf of Mr Patrick Carr, a farmer of Te Ore Ore, Mr O. A. Pdwnall, solicitor, wrote stating that owing to the construction of the Lansdowne irrigation works thirty acres of Mr Carr’s property had been flooded and had become useless through the water from the Lansdowne water works being turned into an old water course which in summer was always dry, and through apparently deficient workmanship in the depth and width of the drains on the adjoining property made in connection with the supply. Sir Carr requested the council to take measures to prevent the water coming on to his property and flooding it, or he would be compelled to issue a writ to compel them to do so and claim damages. After considerable discussion it was decided that a committee consisting of Councillors Welch, Foreman, and Morris visit the locality and report to the next meeting of the council. State Guaranteed Advances Act, 1909, repealed part two of the Local Bodies Loans Act. 1903 (so far as loans being granted to local bodies was concerned), the application of the council could not be granted. The Treasury also wrote stating that in connection with the £950 loan for the Mangarei road it could not provisionally approve it. as the maximum amount of funds allpwed by law had been promised to their fullest extent. Councillor Toogood drew attention to. the £1 for £1 subsidy up to £l2O for the TJriti and Riverside roads, which had been granted’ some time ago by the Government, but which had lapsed owing to the £l2O not being raised. Councillor Toogood stated that it had been reinstated, and the council had agreed to give £6O towards the cost. Since then Mr Riddiford had promised £SO towards the work. As they were still a few pounds short of the required •amount he moved that the council increase its grant to £7O. This was carried.
