Eherhardt Ferdinand Renner was remanded until the 19th inst. on a charge of having sot fire to a house in Wad© street, Wadestown, on tho 28th ultimo. Chicf-Deteotdvo Broberg asked tlia-t accused should be remanded until the 19th inst. Mr A. LMair appeared for the accused, and asked for bail, which was allowed in £OO and ono surety of £6O.

Edwin Arnold was charged with having stolen a suit of clothes of the value of £2 10s, the property of E. Rhimes. Accused, who has previously been before the Court, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.

Ada Lysier, charged with drunkenness, was found to ho in such a physical condition that she had to be treated at tho hospital. She was directed to pay £1 12s 6d medical expenses or to bo imprisoned for two months in tho alternative.

Florence JloDonald, also charged with drunkenness, was remanded until the IStih fori. medical treatment. Alexander Gilchrist, for drunkenness, was fined 10s or forty-eight hours’ imprisonment.

A man named Patrick Sullivan was brought before the Court on an uncommon kind of charge. It was that ■he had taken three sovereigns from an cgg-cup which was standing on the mantelshelf of the kitchen ,-of his brother’s house. His defence was peculiar. He said his sister-in-law had told him to go and get some ointment out of an egg-cup which was on the mantelpiece to dress an injury which he had sustained to his hand. B-ut instead of the ointment ho found in the egg-cup the three sovereigns. He put them in his pocket for the purpose of showing his brother and sister-inlaw the danger they incurred by leaving money lying about so carelessly. Ho intended to restore the money, and when a constable spoke to him about it he told him tho whole story. The prisoner, who had previously offended, was sentenced to three mouths’ imprisonment.
