FRUIT AND PRODUCE. r WELLINGTON QUOTATIONS. Ample evidence is now in existence in the local fruit markets of tho advent of tho majority of lines of small summer fruits. Over tho holidays there appears to have been a slackening in the demand upon tho part of buyers, but they have now- fully recovered their confidence, as despite much greater quantities coming to hand, prices if anything, with the exception of probably only tomatoes, have advanced. As predicted, both raspberries and black currants have been receiving moro attention at the sales after the holidays. Apples of tho best quality are atill scarce, but some excellent samples of peaches are coming to hand, of which fruit there appears to bo an abundance this season. Tho demand for citrous fruits has fallen off considerably, duo no doubt to the many varieties generally of other descriptions being available. Only spasmodic supplies of strawberries ftro coming to hand, principally from the South, which do not meet with tho same inquiry as Auckland-grown berries. The usual monthly shipment of bananas arrived yesterday, and a heavy aggregate ia being handled in tho local market. A fair proportion of the fruit opened up in irregular condition, doubtless duo to the hot weather being experienced. A small (quantity of cherries arrived from Mci-

bourne and Hobart yesterday, and excellent competition was given to fruit which opened up in good order. POTATOES AND ONIONS. Steady supplies of new potatoes are now reaching tho local markets from the Wellington ami Auckland provinces. So far no Southern-grown have yet come to hand, but inquiries have been made from that quarter, and doubtless next week will eoo initial shipments arriving. Moderate quantities of onions continue to arrive from Victoria each week, and as a decline has taken place in Melbourne, values hero have fallen correspondingly. Potatoes, choice now £7 10s to £8 10s ton; good £6 to £7; onions, £7 10s to £3 10s ton. OTHEE VAEIETIES. Generally, all lines aro in sufficient supply to meet the demand from day to day.
