BREACHES OF FISHERIES ACT

FBESS ASSOCIATION. CHRIST CHUR CH, January 7. Three eases under the Fisheries Gonservairion Act were heard at the Magistrate’s Court to-day, the offences haring been detected at Mew Brighton on December 12th. Two young mm were fined for having taken solo less than nine inches in length, aJnd they and four other men were # fined for having . dragged a net containing fish on to dry land. The latter is an offence under section 11 of the Act, which provides a maximum penalty of A2O for each offence. One of the fishermen Stated (hat there was no clause to this effect in the regulations! provided bv' the Customs office,' but tho Magistrate assured him that tine Act was definite in tho paint, arid ignorance of tho law was no excuse.
