MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL
A meeting. of , the Miramar Borough Council'was held last evening, when the Mayor, Mr C. ,J. Crawford, presided, and there >;£fe present Councillqrs Bro« die, Muir, Bowie and Bell. ; . ~ i". In regard to, mail service ■No. 60, ths acting chief postmaster wrote .-in 1 , regard to the conveyance' of letter carriers and messengers on the: electric: cars. ;It was desired "to ■•make, the continuance of thi existing contract extend for three yearai The proposition was agreed to.*., .The Mayor' was appointed.as "a reprov sehtative of the council on the, Weliing* ton Harbour Board.
:; The Mayor was also appointed delegate to represent the council, at the usual conference of local : bodies for the purpose of fixing the weekly half-holiday. The council agreed that authority should be given to' sue for outstanding rate 3.
It was agreed to reply to a communication from the Secretary to the Treasury that application should be formally made for a loan if it was required after the New Zealand State Guaranteed 'Bill becomes law.
St. James' , Presbyterian Church was granted the use of Seatoun Park for a picnic on the first Saturday in February. It was on; the. motion- of Councillor Muir that a report should be obtained as to the difference in cost between the Osram lamps and the - arc lamps: used for lighting the tram line on the Miramar track. It was stated that on Boxing night, when there, was not one lamp burning: along the track, the weather was boisterous, although there was a certain amount of. moonlight. It _ was decided to expend .£l3B on the improvement of the southern end ol the Seatoun Heights road. ■ Accounts were passed . for , payment : in regard to the district fund account, £2M 15s. It wag stated that the bank bak ance showed a credit of .£BSO 10s Bd.
