VALUE OF MILK DIET
A HORSE REARED ON IT. The milk-fed horse Azote, which ran in the Derby last year, and also in important races in France, Belgium, and Germany, was killed recently at tho veterinary college, Alfort (France), by order of its owner, Mr Hatmaker, for scientific investigation. Tlio skeleton is to bo preserved, and tho stomach, heart, and lungs carefully examined. Azote was taken from its mother when twenty-six days old, and raised and trained during four and a half years exclusively on desiccated milk, water, and a very small daily ration of hay. Unfortunately, in his first steeplechase, at St. Ouen last year. Azote put his foot in a hole. He was so severely in- i jnrocl that it was recently decided to sacrifice him for scientific study.
