TWO HORSES KILLED
MtESB ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, January 6. Two ladies ami two gentlemen who were riding along i;ho tramway track between Brnezes road and New Brighton bridge last evening lad a mwow escape from dieath, and two of their horses were killed, by colliding with-the" 10.10 tram from town. It appeal's - that the nion wore horse trainers, and were riding young -restive animals, while the lady companions were on quieter animate. They saw the train car approaching, but the track at that point is a right-of-way of the board, and has no provision other than the rail bedding for roadway. They wiero compelled to tuna into the fence to avoid the oar. The horses became alarmied at the sound of the tram and reared. One backed a-ight in front of the tram and was killed, while another, for wfrioh the owner had refused .£SO that day, had one of its legs broken cloan off, and ran on three legs for some distance, when it was shot by a i<esJdent. One of the ladies was thrown in. front of rho car, but all the riders got off with only sevore shakings. The horses killed wore both young and valuable animals.
