PROFESSOR MOND’S BEQUESTS
ENDOWMENTS FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH-. PICTURES FOR THE NATION. By Telegraph— Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, January 3. The late Professor Ludwig Mond, the eminent chemist, arid managing director of Brunner; Mond and Co., has bequeathed, subject to his wife’s life interest, to the Royal Society, London, £50,000 for tho endowment of research in natural science, £50,000 to the University of Heidelberg for similar objects, £20,000 to tho Munich Academy for tho promotion of arts, £20,000 for pensions or occasional assistance to Brunner, Mond and Co.’s aged and disabled workmen, and £20,000 to charities at Oassel, in Germany. Also, subject to his wife’s life interest and certain conditions as regards housing and exhibition, Professor Mond bequeathed to the British National Gallery fifty-six valuable pictures. His collection consists chiefly of works of tho Italian School. These include “Tho Crucifixion,” the famous work of Raphael’s boyhood, which was bought at tho Dudley sale for 10,600 guineas.
