INTERNATIONAL CLUB
The initial movomont in respect of the establishment of an International 01 ub in Wellington occurred last evening. That is to say that a few folk who havo oomo to a full recognition of tho fact that this Dominion is virtually cosmopolitan mot at tho Hotel Windsor for tho.purpose of establishing an International Club. And it was in a sense a curious gathering. There were faultlessly attired ladies and gentlemen, and so far as tho babel of tongues went—well, some folk expected an earthshake. There we.ro of both sexes Italians, Greeks, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Russians. But the proceedings wore very pleasant/ Dr G. Borghetti, as chairman, said the club was now something liko one hundred, strong—ladies and gentlemen—and its object was imainly to being together tho "foreigners" and the "natives" in this Dominion so that ;each might understand the other.' \ The club was entirely democratic. Mr A. A. S. Meateath expressed the hopo that the club would become a really valuablo asset to the community. Ho had lived in Italy, Spain, France, and South America and knew a good deal of those countries, but he maintained that hero hi New Zealand was to bo found one of the finest countries in tho world. (Applause). The election of''officers of the club resulted as follow:—President, Mr A. A. S. Menteath; vice-presidents, the Foreign Consuls ;• oommittee, Dr E. Borghetti (chairman), Dr Napier Maclean, the Hon. R. A. Loughnan, Mesdames D. Nathan. Pauli, Montgomery, Boysteth, Miss Veitch. Miss liockie, Messrs Pauli Missone, McKmack, Milligan, Corrigan, and W. Veitch; hon. secretary, Mr ft. Rose; hon. treasurer, Mr Pauli.
