RETRENCHMENT

THE LABOUR DEPARTMENT. Retrenchment is "being made in the Labour Department. Fifteen of the employees have been notified that their services will be no longer required and are being paid their salary up to September 30th. Four of those retrenched are in the department in Wellington, the remainder being in various places throughout the Dominion. It is understood that an inspector at Auckland and one at Dunedin are amongst those retrenched, the remainder belonging to the clerical staff in various places. An alteration is also going to be made in connection with the various districts under the, control of inspectors. Minor districts in which inspectors have recently been appointed are, it is understood, being merged into the larger districts in the vicinity and the work will be carried out by the, inspectors at present in charge of the districts to which the -minor ones will be attached.
