What is credited to be one of the smartest rising two-year-olds at Randwick is a filly by Machine Gun from Zebra, by Tranby from Missie, by Welcome Jack, one of the crack sons of Traducer.

Kiatere was. it appears, a starter after all at the V.K.C. meeting. With 10.1 he contested the Steeplechasers’ Flat Race, two miles, but finished “absolutely” in a field of twelve. The 'Grafton gelding Workmaster 10.10 won in a canter by four lengths from Bribery. Says a Melbourne writer after the second day of the recent V.R.G. meeting at Flemington:—“Seddon ran like a craok last Saturday, and like a crock yesterday. On his form in the Winter Handicap, he looked, though raised a stone, to have a first-class chance in the Braybrook Handicap, and he was made a strong favourite. Seddon has always been an erratic horse, and he put Up one of his worst races, never from start to finish looking the least dangerous.” , The following are considered likely associations in tho Winter Hurdles; —Exmoor, 11.2 or Tauira 9 (H. Telford); Gold Dust, 11.1 (Jerry O’Connell); Kairoma, 10.11 (J. Delaney); Irish, 10.4 (Wilson); Scotty, 10.2 (Deeley); Xavier, 10.2 (A. McConnan); Bully, 10.1 (Speakman); Commander, 10 (M. WANGANUI’S REPRESENTATIVES

FOE TRENTHAM. SPECIAL TO THE “ TIMES/* WANGANUI, July UThe Wanganui contingent for the Tr-entbam meeting will leave to-mor-row. Alick Hall is taking WirraL and St. Bill, but not Lull, the latter having gone a bit sore. Wirral is very lit. He as been jiimping splendidly, and easily holding Compass. The latter is well, and will go down, in charge of Cotter. Auratus arrived hero yesterday on his way to Wellington in charge of Alert Gardener. The Gold Beef gelding has quite recovered from the injury he sustained at Otaki, and is moving very well indeed. Jimmy Peachey is taking both Irish Rifle and Belario down. The former is galloping well. Belario has only' been put over the hurdles a couple of times since h© returned from Auckland, where he injured himself slightly, but is now all right again.

ON THE TRENTHAM! TRACKS A fine morning with drying tracks proved a vtSry welcome change to Trentham habitues yesterday. The first appearance of Auckland's strong representation for the approaching fixture gave added interest to the grooeedings. The northerners comprised en Jenson, North Head, Le Deau/irish, Scotty and Bully—a sextette whose presence at the meeting should certainly enhance its attractiveness, especially in view of tho Nationals.

Sir Frisco, who it is generally considered will he Lowe’s ‘'selected 1 ’ for the Parliamentary, was the only one of that mentor’s team to be extended. The San Francisco horse is a good beginner, and may be relied upon to give a taste of his undoubted quality on Saturday ■with tho going to his liking.’

Tauira and Exmoor, the first of whom is generally regarded as Prosser's most likely representative in the Winter Hurdles, both negotiated the schooling hurdles in first-class stylo. That once promising son of Torpedo and Rivulet, Waitarere, who has not raced owing to infirmity since Haydn's Wellington steeplechase two year® ago, was once again in evidence, and showed he has not in tho meantime forgotten how to jump, by proving a safe conveyance over four hurdles and two brush fences.

First Mate, who has proved very disappointing since he iron over a mile and a quarter in hack company in March last, put up a rather attractive gallop over a mile, the last seven furlongs of which occupied Imin 43sec. Sweet Angelua made good time over the first part of six furlongs, done in Imin 25seo.

King Post and Succession were together at the end of four furlongs, done in 55 3-oseo.

Hilarian* was not fully extended over six furlongs, taking Imin 28sco over it. First Consul, a Trial Plate candidate, was not much use to the nice-looking Saraoen gelding Porakau in a four-fur-long flutter, which tho latter ran in 55 l-sseo. Purakau showed at Otaki last month he could muster up a good deal of pace over five furlongs, end but for being badly interfered with when The Saint fell at straight entrance, might have’won- the race, which went to Te R/u.

Seaman ran six furlongs in Imin 27seo, stopping over the last part of it. North Head traversed a miio and a half at a good strong pace, and if under his new mentor ho has improved in his jumping, it ought not to be long before he returns a portion of his purchase money. Ben Jonson, who Is not engaged the first day, but is expected to be one of the field for the jumpers’ flat on Wednesday, hit out in good style over two rounds. Waihnku, who will probably make hie first appearance over the battens in the Peninsula Hack Hurdles, was given a similar task, and evidently relished it. To Aral, equally at homo over small or big fences, judged by bis Gisborne performances—they don't often mix it successfully—did long work, covering three rounds. That mnoh-improved horse, Le Bean, whose Auckland racing has done him no end of good, hit out resolutely over two miles. Sootty also pleased by the hearty manner in which he performed his allotted task. Irish, Xavier, Yosami, Llanwern, Capitol, Commander, Stormont, Southern Cross, Knight Commander and InohJjoon® did useful tasks-
