CUSTOMS CONVENTION PROPOSED.

The Federal Cabinet has decided to ao« cept a recommendation of the Minister of Customs in favour of asking the Im-j perial Government to call a Customs Convention for dealing with, a, number of matters which are considered to be' of interest to all Governments. Tho principal objects to be attained are:—' (1) The interchange of information as to the value and other particulars, of goods exported; in response to inquiriea or questions of adulteration, undervaluation, fraudulent weights, and other misdescriptions. ■ • . (2) The interchange of statistical and other information of interest to those engaged in trade and manufactures. (3) Interchange of information in regard to Customs laws and practice. {£) The establishment of an additional medium of communication between traders of various countries. The convention, it is pointed out, should l>e entirely distinct from the International Tariff Bureau at Brussels, since there appears to be no necessity for the creation of any central bureau. It is thought by the Government to be immaterial where the meeting is held, providing it should be convenient to most of the representatives who will attend.
