RIFLE-SHOOTING

THE GARRISON SHIELDS, SECOND COMPETITION. (By H. 0.8.) There were 283 men at Tronthaiu on Saturday afternoon, included amongst whom were twenty-two officers, the cccasicn being the second competition for the garrison shields. The result was as follows ; Senior Shield Hatch.

AGGREGATE POINTS. The aggregate points of ho first two competitions now stand; — Seniors. City Rifles, 4 points. Highland Rifles, 4 points. Guards, 4 courts. Post and Telegraph, nil. D Battery, nil. Juniors, No. 1. Zcalandia Rifles. 5 points. , Pest and Telegraph Rifles, 3 points. Civil Service Rifles, 2 points. Hutt Valley Rifles, 2 points. Engineers, nil. Juniors, No. 2. Only one competition fired, as classification to third class only took place as from Saturday Permanent Artillery, 3 points. Cycle Corps, 2 points. College Rifles, 1 point. There is one match to go, and tho above results show that tho final '"“Pp" tition will be most intercstog. Gunner Gower, of tho Permanent Artillery, made top score for the day, registering 95 out of a possible 105. The wind was a decided “fish tail," and the light was none too good, which militated against hick scores. Gower mad© S 3 ac. AW yards, 29 at 500, and 33 at 600 yards. Sergeant Tinney, of the Guards, made 9*_T29, 33, 32. The scoring and the position of the teams and comments thereon will be published on Wednesday. KARORI CLUB. The Karori Rifle Club opened its second series with a match at 900 yards and 1000 yards. • Some good scores were made, but the match was unfinished, two competitors having a shot each to go. He prizes for this sot its are presented by Meters Pearce, Field, and Holliday, and tho trophy . for the highest score of the day by Mr H. Marshall. Scores: — 900 1000

D. BAITEIcT. Competition for belt and other trophies. Q.-M.-S. King won the aggregates for the first three matches in A class, and Driver Simmons headed th© aggregates in B class.

PETONB BULB CLUB. The Petono Eille Club continued its competitions on Waiwetu range with, a shoot at 500 and 600 yards, 10 shots, for trophies presented by IV. H. Ballinger and T. Burt in A class, and B clans for trophies presented by Dr Purdy and L. W. Ludwig. The competitions also count for the grand aggregates. The shooting was not up to standard owing to high and variable wind and puzzling light. Scores are:—

Shooting' will bo at 500 and 600 nest Wednesday, and on Saturday following at 600 and 800 yards.
