OLYMPIC FOOTBALL CONTEST
WON BY THE “ WALLABIES.” WHO DEFEAT CORNWALL BY WIDE MARGIN. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright LONDON, October 26. An international Rugby football contest was arranged in connection with the Olympic games, each member of the winning team to receive a gold medal. A number of foreign entries were received, but these teams were scratched, and only one game was played, the Australian representatives, the ‘Wallabies,” meeting Cornwall, the English county champions, who were choson to uphold the honour of the United Kingdom. The match resulted in a victory for the Australians, who scored 32 points (seven tries, four of which were converted, j and a penalty goal) to Cornwall’s S points (one try). The "'Wallabies,” when they met Cornwall on the 3rd instant, won hy 18 points to 6. In 1905 the "All Blacks" put the county’s representatives down by 41 points to nil.
