SCORCHING REPUBLICANS JUDGE ACCUSED OF ACCEPTING A BRIBE. TO INFLUENCE LEGISLATION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. NEW YORK, October 26. Mr W. E. Hearst claims that his fresh batch of purchased letters will set fire to. more prominent official reputations. The letters, he says, show that Mr John D. Arclibold, of the Standard Oil Trust, recommended judicial appointr ments, which had since been made, and had also sent a sum of £3OOO to Mr John P. Elkin, Supreme Court Judge of Pennsylvania, when he was Attorney-General, with a view to inducing him to kill a measure tjien before the State Legislature. Judge Elkin (who is a Republican in politics) denies that ho received money improperly or for influencing any legislation.
