A voluntary guard of honour accompanied tile Catholic procession of tho Sacrament yesterday in connection with tho Eucharistic Congress. Twelve thousand persons took part in tho procession, and there were 300 police on duty in tho streets it traversed. There was a groat crowd of spectators, and many small windows along the route of tho procession were let at ton guineas each. CEREMONIAL PORTION CONFINED TO CATHEDRAL. (Received September 14, 1 a.m.) LONDON, September 13. After two days’ telegraphic negotiations between Mr Asquith and Dr Bourne, ■ Archbishop of Westminster, tho Premier deprecating tho holding of tho procession and Dr Bourne requiring Mr Asquith to make a public request for its abandonment, the Premier intimated that it would bo better, in the interests of order and good feeling, that the ceremonial—of which ho questioned the legality—should not take place. Dr Bourne then decided that all ecclesiastical ceremony should be eliminated from the procession, and that tho cardinals and bishops should proceed to the Cathedral along tile proposed route in full Court dross; hut that tho ceremonial procession bo held within tho Cathedral, and the Legate’s benediction bestowed from tho baioony of the Cathedral.
