Tho New Zealand bowlers met tho South Melbourne Club to-day. The weather was lino, the attendance good, and the green in excellent condition. New Zealand—Martin, Geo, Coltman, Goldstein (s;), 25; South Melbourne, 37. The Now Zealanders scored in eleven heads, gaining throe 3's. Now Zealand Brood, Bastings, Bentley, Scoullar (s.), 35; South Melbourne, 23. South Melbourne got in one 6. thenceforth their highest was a 3. New Zealand scored consistently, and got several s’s and 4’s. New Zealand—Wallace, McGibhon, Hain, Findlay (a,), 2G; South Melbourne, 17. New Zealand Neaves, Gibson, Smith, Waddell (s.), 33; South Melbourne, 23. Now Zealand—Stnbberfield, Manning, Ohegwin, Bishop (a.), 16; South Melbourne, 32. New Zealand—Thompson, Bunting, Johnston, Allnutt (s.), 32: South Melbourne, 19. The local skipper (Slattor) is an ex-champion. Totals—New Zealand, 162; South Melbourne, 139.
The game ended under electric light, a novelty appealing to the New Zealanders.
Previous to the start the visitors were welcomed by the president (jir Skinner), and cheered. At an adjournment at 4 o’clock, Mr Skinner cordially welcomed the Now Zealanders on behalf of local cricket, football, and bowling dubs. Mr Stranguard, Mayor, spoke on behalf of the citizens. The feelings expressed were reciprocated by Messrs Waddell and Allnutt, who referred to South Melbourne’s charming, picturesque green. A few New Zealanders played a scratch match under electric light, loon] ladies joining the ranks of the New Zealanders. The visitors leave for Adelaide to-morrow.
