MARRIAGE MADE DIFFICULT.
Marriage for Belgian officers is only permissible if the bride baa a dot of £sl n year, and can ehow the military authorities a certificate from the parish assuring that she and ner parents occupy a certain social position and are considered respectable and desirable pdople. This old-fashioned regulation is (says the Brussels correspondent of the ‘'Evening Standard”) the cause of much annoyance and frequent difficulties. as it is not always possible for tho bride to produce the certificate. Only recently an officer committed suicide as his lady-love had not the necessary fortune, and ho saw no chance of ever obtaining it.
