SHORTAGE OF PETROL
The present scarcity of petrol is giving the Colonial Oil Company, the largest handlers of this oil in New Zealand, very, great concern, and during several months past the company lAis spent £2OOO in transhipping petrol to the Dominion without raising at all tho price of that article here. Thirty thousand cases of petrol have 1 * recently been shut out from steamers kAiding in New York for New Zealand, so the Colonial Oil Company arranged to send largo supplies of it from Australia to meet tho demand here. The steamer Orange Branch was to have left Sydney for Auckland some weeks -ago, but was delayed owing to strikes. She, however, arrived at Auckland yesterday, and ■brings 22 500 cases of naphtha ».md benzine, which should go far to relieve the present acute shortage of thoso pro*ducts.
