THE ZOO
PROPOSED ENIi A.BGEMTSIT. KXPBNDITT7KB BY CITY COUNCIL. The Reserves Committee of iihe City Council last night reported that it had considered the question of the zoo at Newtown Park, and, having visited tne site, recommended:— That, in their opinion, the adjacent ground can, with moderate expenditure, be made suitable for a zoo of proportions creditable to' the city and Dominion, the. park forming a very attractive feature in the arrangement. To bring the matter to a definite conclusion, they recommend :■— That the Council resolve that it is desirable to enlarge the zoo and bring it up to date as to collection and convenience of the fauna. To give effect to clause 1: the services of a competent curator be obtained to develop and manage the Undertaking. That a sum of £IOOO be, placed on the Estimates for, the incoming year for the development of the zoo, and providing salary for the curator. The report was adopted. .
