LEAGUE OF MERCY
HELP WANTED FOR THE POOR,
Those not needing the ministrations of the League of Mercy of the Salvation Army in this city perhaps do not understand the essential work that is being done auietly, unostentatiously, and with risible effect by Mrs, "Major" Glover, secretary of the League. In a short chat with a "Times” inquirer yesterday Mrs Glover outlined the scope of the League and the necessity for it. Its mission is to minister to the distressed, the poverty-stricken and the dying, and its work has to be ceaseless and self-abnegating to meet the necessities of the case. The Salvation .Army in its rescue work recognises no) creed and no circumstances except those which impel them to reach forth the ' right hand of succour —and so the hand is never resting. Mrs Glover tells how, now that the winter is upon the poor and the suffering, there is need for the League of Mercy and of the help of the public. Without the help of the public the work of the Army would stop. It is only by repeated applications that the public keep in mind the necessity for co-operation. The immediate need of the League of Mercy is clothes. The League wants them now and wants lots of them —men's clothes, women's clothes, children's clothes. Said Mrs Glover; "Can't von ask people to search around in their wardrobes for left-off garments to gladden the-hearts and warm the poor frail bodies of those we tend?” The inquirer said ho would ask the people. Here is the appeal—Send the parcels to "The Citadel, Vivian street.”
