Hail-Joncs received a hearty welcome homo trom his constituents who crowded the Drill Hall at a meeting this evening. The Mayor presided and presented tho Minister with an illuminated address congratulating him on his restoration to health, and also on completion of a twelfth year of service ns a Minister of the Crown. Other speakers wore the Hon. Dr Findlay, Sir Mb J. Steward, the Hon, T. Y. Duncan, Mr F. R. Flatman, and Mr M. Cohen. Tho speeches were all of a congratulatory character, and high praise was accorded to Mrs ITaii-Jonos for car© that had saved her husband’s life. Most of the speaker dwelt upon the diligence and eoiLscientiousucss, impartiality, and courtesy with which Mr Hall-Jones had performed hi* duties as a Minister. His colleague and tho representatives of South Canterbury warned him against overwork in the future. Mr Hall-Jones made a suitable reply of thanks for the kind reception given him for the unexpectedly numerous and warm assurances of sympathy he received before leaving for England—which had been a great factor in his recovery—and for the support he had ahvays received from his cohstitutents.
The meeting was most cordial. Mr Hall-Jones returns north on Monday.
