TWO MANAWATU DEPUTATIONS,
Tho Minister in charge of the'Roods Department, tho lion. J. M'Gowan, received a couple of deputations from the Manawatu district yesterday. The members of tho first deputation representing tho Fitzherbert Riding of the Kairanga County Council, wanted the Minister to try *nd find some moans of relieving them of the cost of maintaining some 2* miles of the road through the Manawatu Gorge In his reply the Minister promised to go carefully into tho matter and to get a report made to him. _ If ho could see any way of assisting h© would be pleased to do so. The matter of the proposed new bridge over the Manawatu at Hokowhifcu was introduced by the second deputation. The Minister was re-

A promise that the whole matter would be exhaustively gone into was given by the Minister, who also expressed sympathy with the settlers in the position they were placed.
