The first of a series of evening races held in connection with, the Thorndon Amateur Swimming Club was held at the Thorndon Baths last evening, when a 59yds race was decided. First heat: Picot (9sec) 1, G. Bruce (9sec) 2, Q. HcKellar (9scc) 3. Also started—H. T. Thomson (12sec), A. W. Smith (lOsec), H. Bey (9sec), L. Armstrong (Dsec), 0. Brice (7sec), L. Williamson (Gsec). Time, 35se<v Second heat: W. Harty (4sec) 1, C. N. Pownall (4scc) 2, Fred. Roberts (sc) 3. Also started —J. Bridgman (8«ec), G. H. Fell (ssec), R. Nelson (ssec), J, G. Smith Msec), R. Kenayne (Steec). Time, Sleep. Final; G. Bruce (9&ec) 1, G. McKollar tOsec) 2. N. Pownall (4«ec) 9. Time, 37sec. Both J. Picot and W. H>rtv. who finished first and second were disqualified. The race will count toward tho cup presented by Sir J. Ward.
