LAWN TENNIS

THE WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Wellington Provincial Lawn Tennis Association was held lust evening. There were fifteen members in attendance. Mr G. A. Hurley occupied tho chair. REPORT AND.BALANCE-SHEET. Tho annual report, reviewed the work of the year, and set forth that tennis had made a very satisfactory advance in strength during th© year—ae many as e»gut new clubs Having become affiliated, i’fio balance-sheet showed a larger credit balance than over. The bank balance is £44 7s lud, tho total assets .£139 7s lOd, and liabilities nil.

The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, said the report was one of, the best they had ever submitted to the association. There had been some criticism with regard to the management 'of the province during the year, and. he thought, the criticisms passed with regard to country tennis were deserved. The competitions for country' clubs were, not as well managed as they might be. They had had only some five entries in the Cup competitions amongst country, clubs. Masterton was one of these, and, he thought, had not played one match. Ho thought the time had come when tennis in Wellington could well afford the payment of a salary to a man who would undertake the work of a paid secretary. They could have an honorary secretary as well if necessary. They had now 1500 players. , ’ ■ The report and balance-sheet was adopted.
