BLENHEIM BOAT DISASTER
FUNERAL OF THE VICTIMS. PRESS ASSOCIATION. BLENHEIM, October 10. The funeral of the eight persons drowned In the Montana disaster on Sunday took plaoo this afternoon. Between three and four thousand persons attended. The cortege included over ®ne hundred and fifty vehicles, and was half a mile long. The Marlborough Mounted Rifles, the School Cadets, and the Garrison Band were in attendance. Tha procession left the Market Place at 8 o’clock. The band played “Tho Garland of Flowers” and ‘,‘Tho Dead March” in “Saul.” \ Nash was hurried with military honours in tho Catholic Cemetry. Three volleys were fired over the grave, and tho Hst port was sounded. The funeral service was conducted in the presence of the largest gathering ever seen at a funeral in Marlborough. 'Tho officiating clergymen were the Hey. Father Fay, Archdeacon Grace (Anglican), and the Revs. ’ Robb (Presbyterian) and Penney (Wesleyan). The three last-named deKyered impressive at tha grave side. The coffins vmsto covered with wreaths, one of which was sen t by .Mr 0. H. Mills, M.H.R. for the district.
