SEAMEN'S DISPUTE.
PIUSM ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN, January 18. The Arbitration Court sat to-day to hoar a dispute between the Dunedin branch of the Federated Seamen's Union and the Union otenm Ship Company end other steamship owners m Otago. The union’s demands include an increase of wages of 10s a month oil round, ns compared with the award of 1902, together with an increase in the overtime rates, reduction of hours of labour, and preference of employment to members of the Seamen’s Union. Three witnesses were examined ns to hours worked and conditions of employment on boat? trading between Dunedin and *Oreymonth and Dunedin and Auckland. The case will probably extend over several days.
