BOXING.
It is understood that the recommendations of 'the Parliamentary Select’ Committee with reference to boxing will be gazetted In the course of a day or two. Strong opposition has been shown by the Wellington and Canterbury Boxing Associations, backed np by the Council, to the regulation in regard to professional boxing, but the "powers that be" appear to ignore tho representations. It is probable that combined action will be taken next year with' a view to having the obnoxious regulation removed. Probably on Saturday week a conference of representatives from boxing associations will be held in Christchurch to draft the constititution of tho Council, and draw np rules in accordance with tho new regulations. Tho Wellington Association will be represented bv Air R. \V. McVilly (chairman), and Air Coffey (hon secretary). Air Coffey has also been requested to represent tho’Northern Boxing Association (Auckland) and the Alanawatu Boxing Association. Admirers of the sport in the Hntt Valley are contemplating the formation of a boxing association in that district. In reply to a request for iaTormation concerning the establishment of an association, The secretary or the Wellington Association advises the promoters that nothing can be dons in this direction until tho new regulations are in working order. The New Zealand Boxing Council is circularising all affiliated branches with a view to putting them on their guard against the attentions of the low-caste proressional boxers who are finding their way plentifully to this colony. The Wellington Association had directed the notice of the Council to the invasion of "undesirables.”
